Low-frequency ultrasounds can also be used for physiotherapy, by using mechanical and thermal effects to influence muscle pain, tendinitis and swelling. Ultrasounds consist of compression and decompression waves that generate a vasodilatation of blood vessels and soften the tissue allowing a relaxation of muscle spasms. It is an anti-inflammatory action, related to the heat release, which acts on neutrophils. It inhibits cell aggregation, phagocytosis and oxidation.
